No glue is required for assembly, and the mechanical firefly shape can be assembled by screw connection only according to the assembly diagram. Total of 302 pieces, assembly takes about 3 hours, depending on your own ability. Amazing details and a wonderful DIY experience!

What I hoped it would be

Super fun to assemble. The instructions were great and easy to understand. Took a little longer to complete than it should have but I had a few drinks during😅

Fun to put together

Overall the materials are high quality and it's pretty easy to put together with some patience ... except for that one part that it calls out in the instruction book.

There's one part where you have to fold a spring around another piece and, once looped onto the screw, finagle the screw through a tight space. I'm glad they gave me an extra spring because I lost one across the room and found it days later. This part alone took me about an hour. If you slide on one of the extra tiny L brackets above the second spring loop (after wrestling it on) it will give you marginally more leverage against losing the spring as you try to line up the screw. Just make sure to slide it off before putting the screw through the long tail piece.

I wish the metal loops around the tail piece were more secure, or the instructions reminded you to put them back on before attaching everything at the end. They slid off during construction and I didn't realize until the firefly was fully assembled. I had to un-assemble it to fix.

Lets see ... there wasn't a battery for the tail lamp, so make sure you order one. Also, don't over-tighten the screws especially when you have a spring loop in there - it will break the loop.

8.5/10 - I ordered the dragonfly and the steampunk lamp guy so definitely pretty happy overall!

Takes a little patience, but the instructions are easy to follow and when you're done you have a very cool metal insect.

Pros and cons

Overall, I'm satisfied with this kit. However it's pretty small when finished. Also, the majority of the screws go through holes that are larger and, therefore, there's a lot of movement - no matter how much you tighten.

The pieces are high quality, but it's not easy to assemble and, in the end, there's a lot of loose areas.
